How to Use

This natural incense is designed to be gently heated over a lit charcoal disc rather than lit directly.

1. Light the edge of a self-igniting charcoal disc with a match or lighter until it starts to spark, then set it down in your cauldron, censer or charcoal burner.
2. Wait until the sparking has spread across the whole disc, the surface has turned ash-grey, and you can see it glowing red underneath. That's your sign it's ready.
3. Using tongs or a small spoon, add a small amount on top of the charcoal, adding more if desired.

Safety & Care

Charcoal burns very hot, and the steps below apply no matter which resin, blend or charcoal you're using.

• Always burn in a well-ventilated area, with doors or windows open to allow good airflow.
• Burn on a stable, heatproof surface such as a cauldron, censer or charcoal burner made for this purpose, well away from curtains, paper and anything flammable.
• Once lit, both the charcoal and the burner become extremely hot. Use tongs to handle the charcoal, and tongs or a small spoon to add resin or herbs. Never handle hot charcoal with your fingers.
• Protect the surface underneath your burner. Even a heatproof dish can transfer heat to the table below, so stand it on a trivet, tile or other insulating base.
• Keep lit charcoal well away from children and pets at all times, and never leave it unattended, even briefly.
• Let charcoal burn out naturally rather than trying to extinguish it early. We don't recommend water: a hot metal or ceramic burner can crack or warp from the sudden change in temperature. To stop a burn early, smother the charcoal with sand or ash in a heatproof container instead.
• Allow the charcoal, the ash and your burner to cool completely before handling or disposing of them. Cast iron, brass and ceramic can remain hot for some time after use, so check that everything has cooled completely before handling.
• Store unused charcoal in a sealed, airtight container in a cool, dry place. It can become difficult to light once it has absorbed moisture from the air.
