Moldavite is a very rare and precious type of Tektonic glass, created by a huge meteorite impact at the Noardinger Ries in Bavaria, Germany about 14.8million years ago.
It is believed that just before the impact with Earth’s surface, the air cushion between the meteor and the Earth was raised to such an extreme pressure and temperature that sand and rock beneath it melted, and was thrown high into the atmosphere. These molten globules then rained down after their space flight into the Moldau River Valley, north of Prague in the Czech Republic. This is where it’s name Moldavite comes from! Moldavites were discovered at the end of the 18th century, and are now becoming increasingly rare due to their finite source, and to recent popular demand.
