About Chrysoprase

Chrysoprase is a rare green variety of chalcedony, part of the quartz family. Unlike many green gemstones, its distinctive colour comes from trace amounts of nickel, creating shades that can range from soft, milky green through to the vivid translucent apple-green for which fine Chrysoprase is especially prized.

Australia is one of the world's most important sources of Chrysoprase, with significant deposits found around Marlborough in Queensland and throughout the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia. Australian Chrysoprase has become particularly renowned for its rich colour, translucency and gem quality, with the finest material displaying an extraordinary natural luminosity.

Chrysoprase is sometimes known as the “Stone of Venus”, reflecting its long association with love, the heart and our capacity to both give and receive.
