Sunstone in Iolite Square Point SIP-05

Regular price $135.00 AUD

This point moves through three visibly distinct zones from top to bottom. Near the tip, deep violet-blue carries fine reddish-pink flecks scattered through it. Below that, the stone turns pale and almost translucent, a smoky champagne tone with a visible inclusion caught inside. By the base, the colour deepens again into a dark, near-black navy.

The reddish flecks are aventurescence, sunstone's signature shimmer, caused by tiny mineral inclusions reflecting light back through the stone. The paler and darker zones come from iolite, which is known for pleochroism, its tone shifting from smoky translucence to a much deeper blue-black depending on the angle you view it from.

There's also a fine internal fracture line visible through the pale middle band, sitting alongside the natural inclusion in that zone, both part of this stone's makeup rather than anything added or altered.

Sunstone carries a long association with vitality, warmth and confidence, while iolite has a more introspective history, historically used by Viking sailors as a natural aid for locating the sun through overcast skies, and in crystal tradition linked to intuition and inner clarity. With this much of both stones' character visible in one piece, it's a fairly even expression of that pairing.

The tapering point form works well as a display piece, somewhere its banding can catch available light rather than being tucked away. This is the exact piece pictured and the crystal you will receive.
