There's a quiet before the reveal with this piece. At first the point reads as a deep, cool grey-violet, sparkling faintly here and there, and it isn't until you turn it fully in the light that a warmer, more colourful section comes into view.
Sunstone's shimmer is aventurescence, caused by tiny copper or hematite platelets inside the stone catching light as it turns. Iolite is known for pleochroism, its colour shifting between deep blue-violet and a softer, smokier tone depending on the angle you view it from.
Most of this point carries that cooler, sparkling character, dense with fine metallic flecks through the upper section and again near the base. Held up to the light, though, a clearer, almost quartz-like pocket opens through the centre, and within it sits a cluster of warm orange-red inclusions, a striking contrast against all that cooler colour surrounding it.
As a point, it suits a spot where it can be seen and returned to: a shelf, a desk, a bedside table, somewhere a small daily glance feels natural.
Iolite has a long history as a navigational stone, historically used by Viking sailors to help locate the sun through overcast skies, and in crystal tradition it's associated with intuition and inner clarity. Sunstone brings a warmer note of vitality and confidence alongside that. A piece that holds its most colourful detail until you really look closely feels well suited to that quieter, more discerning side of the pairing.
