Held in the light, this point is dense with fine, glittering inclusions from base to tip, giving it an almost metallic shimmer across a body of grey, blue and violet tones. It's one of the more concentrated examples of sunstone's shimmer in this collection, with barely a section of the stone left without sparkle.
That shimmer is aventurescence, caused by tiny copper or hematite platelets inside the sunstone catching and reflecting light as the piece turns. Iolite runs through the base as a softer, smoky champagne tone, a result of the same pleochroism that gives iolite its colour-shifting character, with a faint trace of green visible near the bottom edge.
A point this densely sparkling tends to hold attention wherever natural light reaches it, which makes it well suited to a windowsill or a spot that gets some sun through the day.
Sunstone carries a long association with vitality, confidence and personal warmth, traditionally considered a stone of joy and personal power. Iolite adds a quieter note of clarity and intuition alongside that, historically used by Viking sailors to help navigate by locating the sun through overcast skies. In a piece this dense with sunstone's shimmer, that warmer, more energising side of the pairing feels most present.
